what is an extended family session?
An extended family session includes multiple households—grandparents, adult siblings, cousins, and all the people who make family gatherings loud, lovely, and meaningful. We’ll capture the full group and smaller family combinations.
how many people can be included?
Extended family sessions are designed for larger groups, typically 10+ people. If your crew is especially big (or especially energetic), we’ll talk through the details ahead of time to make sure everything flows smoothly.
how long is an extended family session?
Most sessions last about 60 minutes. This gives us enough time for full group photos, individual family groupings, and a few relaxed moments in between—without testing anyone’s patience (especially the toddlers).
Do you help with posing and organizing the group?
Yes—absolutely. I guide the session with a calm, efficient approach so everyone knows where to stand, what to do and looks their best.
What if there are young kids or elderly family members?
Extended family sessions are planned with real people in mind. We’ll move at a comfortable pace, prioritize key groupings early, and make sure breaks and seating options are available when needed.
What should we wear for an extended family session?
I provide styling guidance ahead of time so everyone coordinates without looking matchy-matchy. Think cohesive color palettes, comfortable fabrics, and outfits that feel like you, just slightly elevated.
How far in advance should we book?
Extended family sessions are popular and require extra coordination, so booking several months in advance is recommended—especially for fall dates or holiday gatherings.
Can we get photos of just our immediate family too?
Yes! We’ll plan time for each individual family unit, plus grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, and any special groupings you’d like. A little planning goes a long way here.
Where do extended family sessions take place?
Sessions can take place outdoors at a scenic location or at a meaningful family property, depending on your vision and group needs. I’ll help you choose a location that works well for larger groups and easy movement.
